I was looking through the TV guides in the last couple of days, and I got a shock to find Dennis and Gnasher appearing Saturday mornings on Channel 9 at 11 AM

I am familiar with the characters only through reading Lew Stringer’s Blimey! blog (as I mentioned on this post, I didn’t get “The Beano” that often back in the 1970’s as it only came out sporadically)

I’m wondering if the viewing audiences here would know of  Dennis and Gnasher’s origins ;)

I’ll be tuning in on Saturday morning to catch up on Dennis’ exploits.

 Shock, Horror!

I got news today that Amazon.ca has put up a listing for “Rocket Robin Hood” volume 2.

I didn’t bother reporting on Volume 1 last year for some reason or other, but if it’s anything like the first volume, it will be on four discs, and presenred in both English and French.

TBH, I thought I would never see that show again (thats probably why I didn’t report on volume 1 last year ;) )

Volume 2 is due for release on May 18th.

Here are the Amazon.ca links (like volume 1, there’s both French and English versions, and as I don’t know which is which (no details yet) here’s the first link, and the second link)

Over the last couple of years, we have been treated to animated TV series, and theatrical shorts that have come out on DVD.  In a few cases, however, they have stopped short of releasing the last volume (for TV shows) or continued the theatrical releases (I’m thinking of Popeye here)

So far we have only three volumes of “Animaniacs”, but to date, they have not yet announced the final volume.

It’s also the same for any further volumes of “The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries” or “Tiny Toon Adventures” (yet they completed “Freakazoid!” – go figure)

Meanwhile, the last volumes of Popeye were released nearly two years ago, and as far as I know there hasn’t been any news on any of the early colour Famous cartoons of Popeye ever coming out.

I wonder if we will hear any further news of these sets ever getting completed. :?

Old blog posts

In the next couple of days (more like the next couple of weeks ;) , I will be intending to post archival stuff from the old “Cartoony Thoughts”  blog.

As these posts date back to a period between 2004 and 2007 (I am only going back as far as Early May 2005.  The older posts (originally from “the Toon Video News” pages will appear by month), I will be turning off comments, so no comments will not be allowed (but I’ll update the original posts) if I am e-mailed.

At the moment, all the posts from April 2006 to August 2007 have been posted – click on the “old blog” category to see these old posts.

Please note also that DVD’s that were advertised for release and were later postponed (or cancelled altogether) will not be included (like the abandoned release of “Chronological Donald Volume 2″ and “Complete Pluto Volume 1″ and the aborted re-release of the Walt Disney Treasures previously released here, as it didn’t happen)

It has been another quiet month for new releases on the news frront. (the only new release announced so far is from Madman for the May release Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends Season 3 (announced today from Madman’s B2B website))

I’m now thinking of expanding this blog to include favourite cartoons in my collection (so that this blog does not turn into a “show and tell” page) while I wait for news from the studios on forthcoming releases.

Sure, the global financial crisis has put the brakes on new cartoon releases of late (particularly in classic cartoons, outside of the Bugs and Daffy volumes coming in April (which I mentioned back in January))

So, what are your thoughts?

Sorry about that folks

but things are (sort of) back to normal.  I have also been doing the same at the “off the record” blog.

normal posts will resume ASAP

Yesterday, the TV Shows on DVD website and Warner Home Video announced the release of the first volume of the 1980’s edition of the Saturday Morning Cartoon Collection.

At the moment, the complete contents of this set have not yet been announced, but as soon as Warner Home Video announces the final listing, it will appear on this post.

Unfortunately for me, I will be passing on the set as I have no real interest in any of the 1980’s shows (these shows have been standardized and practiced to death to have any interest to me.)

However, if you are still interested, Warner Home Video will be releasing “Saturday Morning Cartoons – the 1980’s Volume 1″ on 4/5/2010.

I have the cover art handy.  Click on the image to pre-order from Amazon.
